About Stockholm Royal Seaport

Stockholm Royal Seaport (SRS) is one of the largest development projects in Europe. Former industrial environments are transformed into residential areas with holistic solutions contributing to resource efficiency and reduced climate impact.

By 2030, the SRS is expected to include at least 12,000 new homes and 35,000 workplaces – all connected to Envac’s waste collection system. The system is one of many innovative environmental technologies in the area’s environmental profile.

Envac was chosen as the supplier of the waste collection system to share its expertise achieved, among other things, by being part of Hammarby Sjöstad’s urban development with a high environmental profile.

With ambitious goals focused on efficient resource management and delivering an overall structure that supports multiple ecosystems, the highest standards were required. The waste collection method had to be user-friendly, functional, and sustainable.

With waste disposal and self-emptying bins deployed throughout the area, Envac has ensured that waste can always be easily disposed of and quickly transported to the area’s waste collection terminal.

The waste collection terminal in a rock chamber is designed for the best possible durability. The introduction of a heat exchanger in the station allows heat generated from the system to be channelled back into the terminal.

A weighing system is used for the containers to ensure a maximum degree of filling before they are emptied.

There is no need for manual collection or transport of household waste in the residential area. Traffic with collection vehicles has decreased by 90%, which has created a safer living environment.

Introducing Envac ReFlow

In Royal Seaport the users benefit from Envac ReFlow, a mobile application for citizen engagement that encourages and motivates recycling habits, empowering cities to achieve their climate goals with ease.

Based on data collected by the system households can follow statistics on their sorting results, report any stops, and learn from customised smart and simple tips on waste that make a difference in everyday life.

ReFlow aims to give residents a deeper understanding of sorting and how they contribute to the sustainability goals on a daily basis.

Data collection for the best environmental performance

The Envac system operates round the clock and collects data continuously. This data is analyzed and provided to the system operator, the owner, and other stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making. The Envac Automation Platform and the system portal connect to the Envac cloud, forming the foundation of our digital infrastructure.

The system is capable of delivering a range of services:

  • reports on system performance and usage
  • real time status of waste inlets
  • a secure remote control management with full support for mobile and desktop
  • backups of operational settings, allowing for fast recovery in case of mishaps
  • seamless updates of new functionalities
